Big Barkers were created with big dogs in mind in order to protect their joints and have a bed large enough for the biggest dogs. This mammoth of a thing is a new favorite in the house, even for humans. And as you can see there is still plenty of space for the entire family to snuggle on it
Honestly wished we'd found out about BIg Barker a couple of months ago, because this giant mattress bed would have been perfect during Bear's surgery recovery, but he is enjoying it now all the same! They are specifically designed with dogs like Bear in mind, so it really is perfect for him. It's SO THICK. It's genuinely better than my own mattress.
Bailey has loved her Big Barker Bed from the very beginning! She sleeps ALL night and stands up so much easier now. It's been absolutely perfect for her as she ages.

Before I bought Brody his Big Barker, he was not a "dog bed" kind of dog. He preferred the couch over his previous bed, which I'll admit was a little small for him. After a few weeks of having the Big Barker bed, I can tell you that it's worth every penny!
Brody is an 8 year old, 110lb German Shepherd and Labrador mix and I was getting concerned about his joints and the stiffness he seemed to be developing, especially when he would get up from a nap. I was a little put off by the Big Barker's cost, especially considering that every other dog bed claimed to be orthodic foam/good for large dog joint/blah blah. I can tell you that in the case of Big Barker, you get what you pay for!
Out of the box, I was impressed with the thickness of the bed, how supportive it seemed to be, and it's sheer weight. The Big Barker strikes me as well made, sturdy, and and easy to keep. Thankfully, I haven't had to find out if the BB is water resistant, but I can tell you that thanks to it's removeable Navy blue color, it's easy to keep clean. If you're worried about liquid resistance, I suggest considering the waterproof cover.
Above everything, Brody loves his Big Barker bed! Like I said, Brody was not a "dog bed" kind of dog. Even though he had a store bought foam bed, he would regularly prefer the couch, my bed, or even the floor before napping on his dog bed. The Big Barker changed that! After about a day, Brody really took to the Big Barker and now he happily naps on it while I work nearby, and it seems like he gets a good, deep sleep based on the fact that he dreams during the naps. Brody really seems to appreciate the bolster, and when he gets up, I don't notice as much stiffness and he seems to be able to get up-to-speed faster.
If you can afford it, the Big Barker is absolutely the right choice!
It is now a full 2 years later. This dog bed still looks >brand new<. I have washed the cover many times with no issues. The filling has absolutely zero sag. I am incredibly upset about how much money I have wasted over the years on "disposable" dog beds when I could have bought this one. BUY IT! Three years ago, my husband and I found a half-starved German Shepherd puppy that had obviously been struck by a car. X-rays discovered that both of his hind legs and his pelvis were broken in multiple places. The vet warned us that even with extensive surgery, including an amputation, that he would develop arthritis and mobility issues much younger than the average dog and asked whether or not we wanted to make that commitment to give a stray dog a second chance.. At three and a half, Chance is now a beloved family member. Due to Chance's amputation at such a young age, he has been a "dog bed dog" since we first brought him home. At 70 pounds, we go through orthopedic dog beds every couple of months as they go flat, despite "never-flat" claims. I had looked at the Big Barker bed a few times and finally talked myself into the investment. After reading all the reviews where the reviewer's pups had a love at first sight experience, I was so excited to open this dog bed, I just knew he was going to jump right in and refuse to get out. Nope. He absolutely refused to go anywhere near it and seemingly preferred a cheap $35 bed that we picked up at the grocery store. No amount of coaxing would convince him to lay down on the Big Barker and I was fairly certain that my investment was a complete waste. We chucked the Big Barker in a bedroom and called it a day. After a few days we started noticing that Chance wasn't curling up in his normal spot in the living room.. His goofy self was going into the bedroom to lay on the Big Barker. It wasn't love at first sight, but it's definitely love. Still on the fence? The bed and cover are both of high quality, the cover is thick and appears that it will survive many washings. The bed is every bit as thick as they describe and, as other reviewers claimed, you can stand on the bed and not even feel the floor. I honestly believe that this dog bed might be more comfortable than our expensive mattress and if Big Barker started making these in a queen size I would probably buy one. Stop hesitating and buy this bed, your pup deserves it.
I ordered Big Barker beds for my two Old English Sheepdogs for Christmas. In the past, I've purchased the typical beds from pet stores paying ~$50-$75 and had to replace the beds at least once a year because they flatten out. I began researching beds that were made specifically for big dogs. I saw lots of high priced beds claiming to maintain their shape and not flatten out, but the warranties did not support their claims. Reading the reviews, I found plenty of "my dog loves it" after the first few days, but the follow up reviews for six months to a year, indicated that the beds did not last. My interest was peaked when I saw Big Barker beds had a 10 year warranty!! That's impressive. I have never seen a bed with a 10 year warranty. I figured if they were that sure of their product, there had to be a reason for it. I was surprised when the beds arrived in much smaller boxes than I had anticipated. I liked it because it meant, to me, that the company was not only making a superior product, but they were also "Green" and considerate of the environment. I opened it up immediately and registered my warranties. I was eager to see if Madison and Zebulon would like the beds, as they were quite different from their current ones. The beds were a big hit. The most definitive indicator was later on Christmas day, Zeb picked up his Lambchop (his favorite toy) and went to lay down on his old bed, which was still in the floor in the midst of the typical Christmas wrappings, boxes chaos. He stepped onto his old bed, then stood there looking around, spotted his new bed and trotted over to it to lay down. Clearly, the Big Barker beds are their new favorite things. Our daughter, a college freshman, asked if we could get her one too. "It's so comfortable", she said, while curled up beside Madi. I'll try to remember to do a follow up review in six months and again a year from now. We're impressed with Big Barker.
I have a great dane (like many of the reviewers) he is older (8 now) and beginning to show signs of arthritis. I run a veterinary hospital, so of course I am doing everything I can (medically, nutritionally, supplements) to stave off the degeneration of his joints. One of the most important things to me is to make sure he is comfortable. I get a pretty good discount on pet goods at one of the big box pet stores and have gone through hundreds of dollars of "orthopedic" dog beds over the past few years. They either get so stinky I can't stand them because they don't have removable covers, or they smush so flat in a matter of months he would just rather lay on the floor beside them. I did buy one from Costco that lasted almost a year, but when I went back to replace it, they didn't sell them anymore. I had seen the Big Barker beds online and on blogs before, but the price tag was a big deterrent. Finally, I bit the bullet and bought one. WOW. It is the MOST comfortable, high quality bed I have ever seen (and I have looked around pretty much everywhere.) All of my animals gravitated to it within hours (even my husband likes to lay on it..) My dane is a licker (of feet, fabric, anything) and has already drooled all over the cover. I stuck it in the wash hoping for the best and was surprised that it fit right back on. (I also opted for the waterproof liner, which I would highly recommend since the foam inside the thin cover is very porous and will absorb wet messes and odors fairly easily.) Now I am kicking myself for wasting money on crappier beds when I could've bought this one months, nay years ago and saved myself and my dane some heartache. We will see how it holds up over the months, but seeing as how it comes with a 10 year product guarantee and 5 star ratings, I have high hopes.
On a side note - I really appreciate the burgundy color of the cover I purchased! The aesthetic of the bed is also very pleasing so I don't mind it laying in the middle of the floor like some other ugly beds I have brought home in the past.
We shouldn't have waited a year to provide the comfort of Big Barker to our boy. Just purchased him the XL and he is ecstatic to have his comfort and special spot to lay his head the same way our girl has. These beds exceed all expectations and are worth every penny! The first bed we purchased a year ago still looks and feels like brand new. Big Barker is an exceptional company who understand quality and customer service excellence!
We have two German Shepherds and both love snuggling into our bed for a few minutes each night before they have to go to their beds. Our female loves to comfortably rest her head on a bed pillow & is reluctant to give it up! Her own bed of 2 years ($150) no longer provided support, we decided to buy the Large Big Barker after reading Facebook reviews and reviews from friends who had purchased. And of course we got the one with the pillow which she just loves!
This may be the most expensive bed we've purchased for our dogs, but by far is the best and Eric and his company are well deserving of the support to promote their products. We have gone through countless beds & are not likely to try another brand. I have lain on Big Barker and must admit it is very comfortable, and with the quality, thickness, and density of the foam, there is barely any sinking at all. I could sleep on it if I had needed to! LOL. When we received it, I aired it outside for a few hours and there was absolutely no odor. The picture makes it seem that the bed is huge for her but it's just because she's curled up. When she stretches out, she fills the entire length.
We've only had it a week but it's clear she loves it and an Extra Large Big Barker is in our near future for our bigger boy. :-)
My dog LOVES this bed! He is a 5 year old, 145 lb. Great Dane. Before we had the Big Barker, he would flatten out a bed in a matter of months. This got expensive and I felt bad for him and his aging joints. In the past, it didn't seem to matter what kind of bed we got for him. He would toss and turn all night continuously re positioning himself. That doesn't happen any more. Now, half the time, when I get up in the morning he just looks at me all snuggled into his bed. He would also grumble a lot in the evening before going to bed. He would stand up, lay down, stand up again etc. while we were watching tv. Now, he hangs out with us for a while, then just goes to bed when he feels like it.
It did take him a couple nights to get used to it though. It's much firmer than any of his older beds were. Within a few nights, however, he was all over it. He seems to like the headrest. He doesn't necessarily use it for propping his head up as much as a place to snuggle into.
This bed is on the pricey side, but with the 10 year guarantee I think it will pay for itself over time. I've probably spent at least this much on dog beds in the past. It appears to be well made and the cover is easily washed. The bed is nice and thick. Even when I stand on it, my feet don't hit the floor. I finally feel like I have a bed for him that will last and help him age more comfortably.
I highly recommend this bed to anyone who has a large dog. Don't continuously waste your money replacing bed after bed for your dog like I did!
